Next year will be tipping point for wind in Texas

Houston Chronicle | September 20, 2019

Next year will be the tipping point for Texas when more electricity comes from wind than comes from coal, according to a new report.

The Norwegian research firm Rystad Energy predicts that wind farms in Texas will generate about 87 terawatt-hours of electricity by 2020 compared to 84.4 terawatt-hours from coal.

Nationwide, wind power generation will make up 10 percent of the power mix this year compared to 23 percent from coal, according to Rystad.
